I tried Mac/OS instead of PC/Windows a long time ago. It was different but on balance, not better - still had lots of hardware and OS and software problems, which contradicted the mindset of the day (that Apple and Mac were supposed to be better and more reliable). After several years I went back to Windows. At least I get greater flexibility of hardware choices.

Bottom line: If you have difficulty adapting to suit Microsoft (and still using Windows 7 suggests you do) then you won't find Apple any easier to get along with.

Regarding LrC, its performance increased greatly in the past 18-20 months by utilising multiple CPU cores for building and bulk rebuilding of previews. A many-core CPU is now a very tangible asset for LrC users. The GPU side of it is not so clear cut, and that may in part be because the CPU performance is so much better than it was. Speedy NVMe SSDs certainly help LrC get the best from the multitasking CPUs thanks to huge data transfer speeds. Unfortunately, the better graphics cards are still relatively very expensive and relatively hard to get.

Throw in the new features of LrC vs Lr7, as well as a decent computer, and the LrC subscription model with Windows 10 is by far the best option so long as you do not live out in the middle of nowhere, out of reach of speedy internet for updates, registration, etc., no matter where your photo files are stored. Hint: Australian farms in hilly terrain are a dead loss Be aware that adding or removing internal SATA drives or external thunderbolt drives is enough to convince Adobe software that you are using a totally different computer and that a software/computer registration or deregistration/registration is needed before you can proceed. Doesn't matter that the motherboard, CPU, GPU, RAM, other drives, etc. are still exactly the same pieces of hardware as before.
